Post Re: Animal Crossing: City Folk - Harvest Festival
The Harvest Festival
A Guide by The Duchess over at Animal Crossing Community
©2008 The Duchess

I. What is the Harvest Festival?
II. Who is Franklin and why do I care?
III. Harvest Furniture
IV. How to Proceed
V. Tips & Tricks

I. What is the Harvest Festival?

The Harvest Festival is the equivalent of America's Thanksgiving. In AC:CF, the critters will begin talking about a big feast a few days before the festival takes place (the 4th Thursday of November).

The festival is held from 3:00 PM - 9:00 PM, right in front of your Town Hall. Tortimer will be there for several hours before that setting up the feast tables and complaining that they won't be able to get started until the guest of honor arrives (that would be the main course, Franklin).

II. Who is Franklin and why do I care?

Franklin is a turkey. But he's not just any turkey; he's supposed to be the main course... er, guest... at Tortimer's Harvest Festival, but Franklin isn't stupid. He's figured out why he's been invited and is definitely NOT interested in being anyone's guest of honor during the Harvest Festival!

Franklin is the only character in the game from whom you can get the Harvest Furniture series, including the matching wallpaper & carpet.

III. Harvest Furniture

The Harvest Furniture series consists of 10 pieces, plus matching wallpaper and carpet, in shades of pink and purple (I know, not very harvesty-looking). The pieces are as follows:

Harvest Wall
Harvest Rug

Harvest Bed
Harvest Chair
Harvest Sofa
Harvest Bureau (piece opens so that you can keep things inside)
Harvest Dresser (piece opens so that you can keep things inside)
Harvest Table
Harvest Mirror
Harvest TV (piece can be turned on or off)
Harvest Clock
Harvest Lamp (piece can be turned on or off)

These items cannot be purchased from Nook and are not available through any other known means at this time.

IV. How to Proceed

In order to get the Harvest Furniture, you simply need to follow these steps:

1. Talk to Tortimer (he'll give you a knife & fork set)
2. Talk to A Neighbor (you can give them the knife & fork; they will give you a clue as to where Franklin is hiding) (Please note that this step is purely optional)
3. Talk to Tortimer, Again (he'll give you another knife & fork) (Please note that this step is only necessary if you completed Step 2)
4. Find Franklin & Talk to Him (he will notice the knife & fork, take them and give you a piece of the Harvest Series in return.

That's all there is to it! There is no limit to how many knife & fork sets you can get from Tortimer and there is no limit to how many pieces of the Harvest Series that Franklin will give you.

V. Tips & Tricks

Getting Help From Your Neighbors
I mentioned, above, that Step 2 is optional. This is because you don't need to give anything to any of your villagers if you don't want to. When Tortimer first starts giving you silverware, he will tell you that they belong to a specific villager (as many times as you have villagers) but you are NOT required to hand them over.

The benefit of giving your villagers silverware is that they will then say something like "Oh, have you heard? There's a suspicious looking character hiding out near Nook's!" and then you know where Franklin is. The downside to this is that they may say something like "Oh, have you heard? There's a suspicious looking character hiding out near a signboard!" which isn't very helpful, because you have about 25 signboards in your town.

The villagers do not need to receive the set of fork & knives that Tortimer gives you specifically for them; they will take any set that you have at any given time, however, it only works ONCE for each villager. After that, you will not receive the option to give them another knife & fork.

Talking to another villager before you have found Franklin will result in the exact same clue being given, a second time (although perhaps phrased differently).

Still Can't Find Him?
Franklin will always be hiding behind something (a sign, a town building, a house) but he will be peeking out from the side of it every few seconds and half of his body is almost always visible. His feet are the easiest thing to see and because of the scrolling method of the game, starting at the bottom of your town (near the ocean) and running UP is one of the easiest ways to find him, because you will always see his feet sticking out between the trees/buildings/etc.

Found You Already!
Once you have spoken to Franklin, and received a piece of the Harvest Series, as soon as you move away and Franklin is off screen, he moves to his next hiding place. This means that if you see him on your way back to Tortimer (getting another piece of silverware), THAT is his new hiding place and he will be there when you're ready to take your next knife & fork to him.

Wow! This thing is WAAAY cool! I've downloaded it, and checked it, and it's virus free (you should check it yourself of course) and it's very useful! If you want to get this widget from the original source, it's over on the Official Animal Crossing: City Folk website.

Post Re: Animal Crossing: City Folk - Hints, Tips, & Useful Files
Remember when planning for the houses, that you can't put a pattern/tree/flower/furniture object down in front of the door. So, effectively the spaces taken up by any house look like so:

XXXX
XXXX
XXXX
ooXo

Where X's are spaces taken by the house, and o's are spots in which it would be safe to place items/flowers/patterns. Trees cannot be placed directly next to houses. They won't grow there as the game knows there would be no room to drop fruit.

By the same token, if you see a sign post you can be assured that the house will land around the signpost like so:

oooooo
oXXXXo
oXXpXo
oXXXXo
oooXoo

Again, X's are spaces where the house shows up, P is where the post is, and o's are where it is safe to put items/flowers/patterns, but NOT Trees.

Knowing all of this you can plan walk paths around any of the signposts in your town in perfect preparation for a villager to move in. Also, if you find trees in any of the spaces shown above around a signpost, you need to axe them. They will be destroyed by the buildings, and as in WW they became trapped and ruined perfect town status I wouldn't want to take the chance they'd mess up your pt status even before you attempted to attain it.

Here is an example of how big the animal houses are, and how they show up in the spots where posts are. House Post Example. As you can see from the photo, the tree behind me will be destroyed by an animal moving in, because it is right next to where the house will show up.

The same thing happens when you have a tree planted too near where a character's house is set to expand. The house will expand and destroy any trees too near the final resting spot of the house. Your character's houses final expansion is the same size as the animal houses. I found that my house expanded on the left side of the doorway (The doorway is a direct indicator of where the house post would be.) and I believe that all character houses expand to the left.

If your character house is like so prior to expansion: (Trees marked with T, X is house position, F's are flowers, and 0's are blank spaces.)

00000000
00FXXXF0
0TFXXXFT
00FXXXF0
0000X000

Then it will be like so after your house expands:

00000000
00XXXXF0
00XXXXFT
00XXXXF0
0000X000

As you can see from the example, the flowers and the tree on the left will be gone, but the flowers and tree on the right will remain unaffected.

Post Re: Animal Crossing: City Folk - Guide to Shoe Shines
Here's something absolutely wonderful!!! TWITCH_BIT, otherwise known as Twitch from Utopia, has gone to quite a bit of trouble to discover what makes Kicks tick so you can get your kicks shined to perfection!
Tasty Tasty Shoe Recipes
by TWITCH_BIT from Animal Crossing Community forums.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since I have been very frustrated not knowing which shoes I am going to get from kicks, I decided to make myself a sort of recipe book. Then I thought "Hey if you already have the recipies, why not share?!" So here they are 10 shoe recipies, perfectly "suited" to get you just the shoes you want, just when you want them! In each recipe you will find:

The Style of the Shoe
A Photo of the Recipe on a Boy or a Girl
A list of Substitutions (those are items that will also work, in case you don't have the exact ingredients)

Tell Kicks to shine by style.

*The reason you must wear one of each is that hairstyles, are just that, styles. Wearing a hat both gives you the style required for your selected shoe shine and masks the style of your hair so that you need not get a hair cut!

NOTE: Accessories also have a style but for the purpose of simplicity these recipies only include clothing and headgear.

TIP: Write 2 letters with the name of the shoe style and store the items you need for your shine with Pelly at the post office. That way your inventory won't be full of stuff you just don't wear!

Thanks to DoeEyes, robotbeatbox and TreeSprite for the information, It would have taken me ALOT longer to compile all this without you guys. A Special Thanks to Captain_Lulu fir getting her shoes shined with me and cutting the work in half!

There may be even more shoes out there...I will keep you all posted!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TreeSprite's Notes: In addition to all these lovely shoes for your male/female characters, there's more fun! If you have Kicks shine your shoes and give you all the styles of shoes for your character's gender, Kicks will then offer for you to have your shoes styled as though you were the opposite gender!

How to make Friends Comments

This is a useful skill for those of us who play multiple characters and also find ourselves posting online to the Animal Crossing Communities (or other) forums. It's hard to remember who is who when you are dealing with four different character names per town, as well as the name of a person on a forum. The best way to help yourself and try to end some of your own confusion is to utilize the Friends Comments section of your Friends Tab in game. (That's the tab with the Heart icon.)

Attachment:
RUU_0559.JPG
RUU_0559.JPG [ 87.98 KiB | Viewed 4685 times ]

As you can see this is the friends section of your menu in game. You can see from the highlited portions of the picture that we are on the friends (heart) tab in th main menu, and the Register a Friend tab (also a heart icon) at the top.

From here you can see that there are three colors of comments bubbles. Grey colored bubbles indicate that there are no comments. Yellow colored bubbles indicate a comment that you yourself have made. Pink colored bubbles indicate comments that your friend has made.

Attachment:
RUU_0561.JPG
RUU_0561.JPG [ 86.76 KiB | Viewed 4685 times ]

You can see in this picture that in order to view the comments that have been made we need simply to mouse over, and then select (the bubble turns green) the comments bubble in order to view the comments.

Attachment:
RUU_0562.JPG
RUU_0562.JPG [ 90.89 KiB | Viewed 4685 times ]

Here we see how to edit those comments bubbles and put them to our use. Simply select the name of the friend whose comments bubble you wish to edit, then select rewrite comment.

Attachment:
RUU_0563.JPG
RUU_0563.JPG [ 89.75 KiB | Viewed 4685 times ]

After selecting Rewrite comment, we see that the keyboard screen pops open and we are able to add our own comment in the text bubble. I have added the name Liones to the line because I know this friend better as their forum name through postings on the ACC forum, rather than the character name Cheetah.

Attachment:
RUU_0564.JPG
RUU_0564.JPG [ 86.24 KiB | Viewed 4685 times ]

You can see in this photo that the comments bubble has now turned from grey to yellow indicating that our comment did in fact become written to the program.

Attachment:
RUU_0565.JPG
RUU_0565.JPG [ 86.83 KiB | Viewed 4685 times ]

Finally, we can see in this photo that as we select the new comments balloon our comment is there for us to use as a reference to who this friend is in the future. :)
