Post [C2 KB] Having to start the game twice
Having to start the game twice before playing Creatures 2.
Issue: Some players have reported instances where Creatures 2 will not load and play first time. It sometimes takes two attempts to get the game going.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Analysis: This has been related to the Object Linking and Embedding function which Windows provides and which is at the heart of the messaging system which Creatures 2 used to communicate with the applets.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Resolution: There are three suggestions which have helped people with this issue so far. The first is to open your Creatures 2 main directory and double click the following files:- Creatures2.exe InjectorKit.exe BreedersKit.exe ChroniclesKit.exe EcologyKit.exe GraveyardKit.exe Hatchery.exe HealthKit.exe NeuroScienceKit.exe ObservationKit.exe OwnerKit.exe ScienceKit.exeThe second suggestion is to check the Microsoft website for Windows Updates. Those people that are using Windows 98 should have a link to the Windows Update in the start bar near the top. Windows 95 users should go to the Microsoft website and search for Windows 95 update. The final way of resolving this issue is a little more complex, but should be easy enough if the directions are followed.Firstly, go into your Creatures 2 main directory and right click on the Creatures2.exe file, click Send to... from the drop down menu and then select Desktop (as a shortcut). Go to your desktop and right click the shortcut, select properties. In the "Target" field you should see "C:Program FilesCreatures 2creatures2.exe". Simply add the text "/Embedding", do not include the quotation marks. The text should look like this :- "c:program FilesCreatures 2creatures2.exe" /EmbeddingRemember that C: (the first part of the text) is the hard drive where Creatures 2 is located, if you have installed it to a different directory, this letter will be different. You should then try to run Creatures 2 from this shortcut.
